How to Get Back Links and Increase Your SEO

After you’ve optimized your website by using proper keywords, you still have some work to do if you want the search engines to notice your site. Search engines depend on back links–links to your site from other, relevant sites–to help them determine which sites are most important to list in their search results. You need to start interacting with other site owners to help yourself get back links in legitimate ways.

SEO - Backlinks

Search engines examine the number of back links to your site when determining whether your site is credible. If you have a lot of quality links pointing towards your site, search engines think your site is more credible and rank it higher. It’s important to get quality links. Quality links are from established sites that are relevant to your site. For example, a site about rescuing cats that get back links from the ASPCA or RSPCA is more credible than a site that gets back links from people’s personal blogs.

You have to be careful with back links because search engine algorithms are designed to weed out anyone who is cheating. For example, don’t create several websites and link them all to one another. Search engines can tell that all your websites are hosted by the same IP address and may suspect you of artificially creating back links if you do this. In addition, only trade links with sites you can trust. For example, you might post a link to a dog rescue business’ website in exchange for them posting a link to your cat rescue website. If both sites are reputable, this works out well for everyone. If you post a link to a spam site, however, the search engines may conclude that your site is spam too and not list it.

It’s difficult to get back links. You have to post on other people’s blogs and websites to get their attention, and it takes time to get these links. However, putting the work in to get back links are well worth it, as the more quality back links you have, the higher your site will rank with search engines.
